Project overview

Located in Hammersmith, West London, Ark is a modern transformation of a distinctive office space originally designed by Ralph Erskine and Lennart Bergstrom.

With a naturally lit, 3,000 sq ft reception and atrium area, and a total of 135,000 sq ft of office space, it’s an impressive refurbishment of a well-located and striking building.

Our job began when we were contacted by BW : Workplace Experts to help with the supply and installation of our products, plus design advice for the bike store within the end-of-trip facility.

Objectives

Efficiently install full bike store fit out
Cycle friendly design with a range of parking options
Speech bubbles icon
Optimise layout and advise on specification choices

Using a combination of Sheffield stands, semi-vertical, folding bike lockers, and vertical racks, a total of 218 cycle parking spaces are available for tenants. When reaching this number of spaces, it is critical to ensure that there is the correct loading space and aisle widths for tenants to be able to load and unload cycles safely.

The wayfinding provides an intuitive way around the bike store, with its three different entrances, and bright orange floor graphics all contributing to a user-friendly and welcoming experience.

Our orange kit lockers provide storage not just for active commuters, but for gym-goers and lunchtime joggers too. Nearby benches are there to help people change, or simply to catch up with colleagues.

Black folding bike lockers are a neat way of storing brompton-style bikes, with the digital code locks allowing users to add an extra level of security.

Finally, the mesh powder-coated caging to enclose the bike store has access control, and is finished with graphics to contribute to the bright, warm basement area.

The end-of-trip facility at Ark is a fine example of how to turn a grey, concreted car park into an inviting, safe, and user-friendly destination for active commuters. This ultimately helps to make the building an attractive space for potential tenants, and for companies to encourage and support active and healthy employees.
