The Story Of The Day

So, on to the story of our ride.

George, Frank, Tito, Toby, and Jon rolled out of Clapham Common at 10AM in good spirits, albeit slightly apprehensive about what was to follow. We had bananas, Snickers, Jelly Babies, and Nature Valley bars (not sponsored), but very little in the way of race fitness.

Led by our strongest cyclist in Frank, who helped replace pedals, check on wobbly wheels, photograph our progress, and – amazingly – fill the entire team’s water bottles all at once, we were soon rapidly approaching the daunting Ditchling Beacon.

Along the way there were plenty of smiles and laughs on the downhill, with a few grimaces on the uphill. The climb up to the Beacon was a tough one, but I can proudly say we all made it up without putting a foot down.

From there, just a swift downhill to Brighton was all that remained before a well deserved pint.Thanks again to Kingston Hospital Charity. Donate here!
